About the Journal

Aims and Scope

The Open Materials Science Journal is an open access online journal which publishes research articles, reviews, case studies, guest edited thematic issues and short communications/letters in all areas related to materials science.

The journal is committed to provide a platform for scientists working on natural and synthetic materials aimed at developing innovative novel concepts coupled with an understanding of basic theories and mechanisms. The scope of the journal covers theoretical aspects as well as practical applications of metals, alloys, metallic and non-metallic corrosion, refractories, ceramics, composites, polymers, fibres and fibre based materials, semiconductors, magnetic materials, nanomaterials, medical implants, biomaterials, forensic science, metallography, microtechnology, tribology, metamaterials, metallurgy, optical materials, natural materials, crystallography, textile reinforced materials, technical textiles and other related fields.

The Open Materials Science Journal, a peer-reviewed journal, is an important and reliable source of current information on developments in the field. The emphasis will be on publishing quality papers rapidly and freely available to researchers worldwide.

Brief Biography

Prof. Norman S. Allen obtained his BSc degree in Chemistry and Polymer Technology in 1972 from the University of Wales and his PhD from the University of Salford in 1976 for studies on Photoinduced Processes in Polymers. In 1983 Prof. Allen was awarded honorary DSc degree from the University of Salford in recognition of his contribution to advancements in the field of Polymer Photochemistry. In his early years he was a chemist at Dow Corning from 1965-1969 working on new silicone polymers. In June 1990 he was appointed to a Chair in Applied Chemistry in the Materials and Chemistry Department where he has maintained a highly active research school in aspects of polymer degradation, stabilisation, polymer analysis, spectroscopy of polymers etc. Prof. Allen has written/co-authored 14 text books in these fields and published over 550 research articles in scientific journals. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology, Journal of Vinyl and Additive Technology, Polymer Degradation and Stability and Dyes and Pigments. His latest book in 2010 is Photochemistry and Photophysics of Polymer Materials (WileyInterscience).
